The stock bikes come with 3 handlebar options (4 until 2019) and this gives some option but this really becomes more personal when you mix and match or change to an aftermarket handlebar.
Within each of the handlebar types, M, S, H and P you have 3 handlebars and 4 stems.
The 4 handlebar types;
Each stock position is with a 520mm wide handlebar, great for nipping around in traffic but not as stable as a 550-600mm.
Some rambling, my favourite set ups and maybe more rambling below;
S type but its too low?
My favourite option here is the Joseph Kuosac Mid Rise Handlebar. Its 600mm wide, 80mm rise and mimics the sweep of the stock M/H bar. These bars on an S type stem directly creates the height of an M type but with the increased reach of the S type stem! At 600mm these are 80mm wider than stock, making the bike brilliantly stable. - you may need to trim some off or be using a rack / larger easy wheels to allow this to fold perfectly.
Cables used are M type, and they work perfectly as the brake levers / shifters sit a little wider than the stock set up.
M type but its a little high?
Again, its the JK Mid Rise bar! dropping roughly 30mm from stock M type, but 80mm wider before trimming, this is the perfect option to tweak the position enough to feel right. The slightly wider set up means the 30mm drop does not make for baggy cabling either.
You are a racer, the lowest possible.
P type stem and flat bar, without going to a negative rise this is the lowest position and maintains the length of an s type.
